New Song - Spots On The Sun

Heya, I finally got another song done. This one kind of came out of nowhere and I've been ignoring life and family to get it done.

I'd appreciate any and all comments.

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7768124

Thanks and peace always.

Very nice song, Dave!
Really like your voice and the arrangement's very good. Mix-wise, I would say the highs on the voice are a tiny bit sharp and it lacks a bit of bottom. Otherwise it sounds fine to me. Well done!

Joe

I like the guitar tone and the EP interplay in the beginning. Your voice is good for this song. The guitar break is good, too. The sound becomes a little piled up on the outro.

I like the hand percussion, but layered with the kit it all sounds pretty busy.

I don't like the word cliche' David. It makes it sound cliche'.

Passe' is a better word IMO. But that's a really small nit. Overall, the song is good.

Cool, a couple of things to work on. The vox are tripled and maybe they have a little phasey thing going on because of it. That might be affecting the bottom end on the vocals, I'll look at it.

I like the outro busy like that, it's what i was going for. I'm hoping it comes across as having a ton of things going on and the listener can explore, relisten, hear something new, etc.... or maybe it just sounds like a mess???

Thanks for listening guys.
(And Joey, i'll be downloading your new album tonight!!)

It's a very nice production and instrumentation! I also think the vocal is a bit top-endy.. The guitar part, though it sounds good and has nice effects, sounds like a person for whom guitar is not their main specialty..

I like the transition chorus --> verse, losing the only thing I've learned tum tumtum tum tumtum ..

maybe the voice sounds too produced, don't know.

nice song though!

Thanks Schenker and Rata... If you ever heard any of my previous stuff, you might understand how happy I am when you think the vocals are "over-produced"!!! I'll definitely be looking at the tweaking the vox. Thanks.

Ummm, errr, okay, thanks... yeah thanks.... For real, I never claim to be a great or even good guitarist and I rarely use a slide or cry baby pedal. But I do have fun playing and making music and that's all that matters to me.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment. I'll return the favor!!!!

Nice job Chili. Like the guitar and the melody. Don't think the vocals sound too "over produced" but would recommend just a bit of de-essing.
All all all I think it sounds good.

That's a great tune Dave, I especially like the guitar/keyboard interplay on the beginning. The slide part is cool, in parts it's a bit pitchy but slide can be kind of unforgiving lots of the time...I very much like the dynamics when the drums kick in, good job!

Thanks man, I made some tweaks, but haven't posted them yet. Boosted the low end on vox. (Basically took out the eq altogether)

Thanks Tony. My wife is a big Pink Floyd fan, so I ask myself what David Gilmour would do with a slide. I don't hear the pitchiness, but I think I've been listening to it too long. I can only hear how I want it to sound.

Great, Chili.
Are you playinng everything?
Drums sounds pretty good!
Great vox , bass, guitar/solos... and good and balanced mix too.

Only nit for a "final" mix (IMO) ,guitar tunning in the the intro
Not a big issue, though...(and an excellent tone too)

Nice instrumentals!

Poor friggin spider but. Could have puthim out the window rather than let him partake in the 'invisible poison' that so pained you. Poor creature!

Seriously, nice instruments and vocal stuff going on.

Sounds pretty good to me. The vocals are a little high-end boxy. The rest sounds fine. I like the busy ending.

Hey Ciro, yeah, it's all me. Drums are ezdrummer, heavily edited. Thanks for the nice words.

There was a real spider, kind of a big one. I didn't smash him, but he got sprayed big time. Then I put him in a plastic food storage bag. I found him in my studio, so I put him on my desk, in the plastic bag, while I wrote the lyrics. Thanks for taking the time to listen and commenting.

Damn...sounds good man. Tastefully done.

It isn't often I get the computer away from the youngsters and when I do, I get the latest Dave Goodz.
Sweet.

Nothin else to comment on that hasn't been. I would like to hear what you've done/changed.

All the way to the conga taps out....tastefully done, sir.

Pretty much the same as above. I think one of the problems the one guy had with the guitar at the beggining may be the effects. It's heavy on effects like something you'd hear a guitar god play. Maybe back off the effects (flanger or whatever) some to make them more authentic if that makes sense? As a whole though, it's strong and with another mix will be even better. Hope you get some more feedback to make it great!

Heya, thanks for the listen and taking the time to comment. I'm not sure I know where you're talking about with the effects on the guitar in the beginning. Pretty much the one guitar is straight through but with a chorus and touch of reverb. If you mean the lead solo, then yeah, it's got a lot of effects, but that's intentional. It's all me playin' and I sure ain't no guitar god... just ask schenkerguy!!

I uploaded a new mix.... same link. Made some tweaks on the vox and bass.
Thanks all!!

Around for a second spin, Dave,

Sounds pretty darned good to me. I just borrowed a conga from a friend. You play it a lot better than I do.

Hey Wig. Thanks for listening. Unfortunately, I don't play the congas. That is ezdrummer Latin expansion pack. it's the same one I used on your song a few months ago. Gotta say, I really love it.

thanks again!!

Really nice recording. It has a cool verby sound to it, which makes me think an echo on the last word of each phrase would sound cool, like ....bed....said. There is a small pause after each last word that leaves room for a little echo. Just an idea for something else to play around with.

Hey GZ, thanks for the listen and suggestion. I'll take a look at doing that. It's easy enough to do.

Listened to your song. Really enjoyed hearing it. Best song I've heard since I wandered back onto this forum again.

My only complaint (as a lead guitar player I'm weird about these things lol) is the guitar solo doesn't take me anywhere. It kinda meanders around like your looking for a place to climax but never quite get there. Loved the tone and the effect, however.

I thought the spacial separation between instruments was nice and sharp. The vocals were nice and on pitch most of the time. Was a couple of brief spots where it sounded a tad flat but not in a way a regular, non-musician would hear.

Good effort and a very nice song. Thanks for sharing it here.

Well....I can't argue it not being an excellent song...nothing I'd nitpick at for sure...good mix, lyrics and playing.

The thing that got me though was as soon as it started playing my first thought was "I've heard that riff before in some other song" Triumph or Schenker or something...I don't know. Is that a bad thing? No...just my unimportant opinion...

Nice job!
