Question Tascam 85-16

Does anyone have any experience with this machine? I am going with a friend to look at one. He already has 2 MSR-16's but he is curious about 1" tape.

There's word that the original had some problems out of the factory and that the revised "B" version fixed that. I'd personally wanna make sure I was looking at the 85-16B. While I have no direct experience, the word, again, is that it is a very well built recorder, very solid and while it doesn't have the more advanced electronics / transport of later models, it's built to last. I'd bet it sounds very nice.

Once in the 80s I had the chance at buying a 1" machine...Im pretty sure it was a tascam...might have been a fostex...I probubly should have made the investment...it was $2400...asking price...and I could have got a few hundred off that.

We had an 85-16 for evaluation when the model was introduced. The transport was a dog. The B version was reportedly ok.
