changing large belt on 246
hi. i just got a new belt kit for my 246. both original belts were toast. i cant figure out how to get access to the large belt because the large pully wheel is blocked by a metal bracket which has other components mounted to it.
Any advice? Thanks |

I posted a thread on 246 belt replacement last year in the analog forum. There were pics and a basic description. Maybe you could find it on a search, or I'll dig it up on search later.
DrZEE has a website where he details very closely the belt replacement on a 244, and that's a huge improvement over what I posted. The 244 & 246 mechanisms are the same. The real deal is that you have to remove the screws that hold the bracket, and just lift it slightly to 'sneak' the belt in over the flywheel. It's really not hard, & that's the long & short of it. Loosen the bracket enough to get the belt in, but don't attempt to remove it completely, which isn't necessary or even a good idea. As you said, there's other stuff mounted to that bracket.
