I just couldn't wait for the HD 24, and "Guitar Sinner" had ADAT LX20's on sale for $899.00 new in the box! I bit, I bought, I blew a bunch of bucks! They did however throw in two 8 channel snake cables, and I must say that my rack looks impressive now.
When the HD 24 becomes available, (And Proves reliable) I will just have to sell a few ADAT's! Dom Franco |

sell them
MisterQCue -- you may have to keep one homes, I mean if your gonna transfer and stuff, but if not, then cool. I was thinking of getting rid of my 3 but then, I'd have to transfer to computer, then when I get my HD24 transfer back --- to much of a hassle
simplicity suites me fine |

Dom,
Download a copy of SamAsh's add and Guitar Cntr will give you a credit slip for the difference, or even more. I did that with a PodPro. They want you to be happy. Chuck |

Sam Ash is selling new ADAT LX20's for $999.00.... perhaps they just can't publish their lowest price? If I could get an advertisment printed out that says they will sell it for less than Guitar Ctr, I can get a refund of the difference for up to 30 days from purchase. I got my ADAT for $899.00 and I still haven't seen a lower price in print.
Thanks All Dom Franco |

Ive seen where all the alesis stuff is getting blown out. but for that same reason the 24 channel hard disk may never reach the market. I was hoping for the 2000 dollar unit because i have a line on a yamaha 02r mixer for 2000 as well.
can anyone confirm the 24 channel unit will come out with buisness at alesis being as it is.

Alesis Guy
Hi, Darrin,
The HD24 has just finished beta test and is ready to go. Our Chapter 11 period is over (it was even shorter than most). This set us back a bit; we are hoping to ship HD24 by the end of July. You are right, some dealers started blowing out their Alesis inventory when they were unsure of whether we would come out of this. Nothing personal against us, it was just business. But we are here, and expect these dealers to now give us some nice-sized orders so they can restock. Mike |

Hi, Ed,
HD24 is currently being used on projects with 24/96. The only thing is, we are using external 24/96 converters. The INTERNAL 24/96 conversion is the future option. thanks! Mike |

how many tracks at once
Refresh my memory...how many tracks can be recorded on the new HD24 at once - I heard a rumor it was 8, but I don't know
(this assumes you're using a 24 channel Mackie board with direct outs for each channel, not an 8 bus configuration) RB |

It records up to 24 tracks, but to add to your question ;
What is the total recording time when using all 24 tracks? Mike ??? N-E body?? The Mackie HDR24 records up to 50 minutes when using all 24 tracks and the Tascam mx2424 records up to 100 minuts using all 24 tracks. |

Find out the hard drive size and divide that by 120mb.
At least I think thats how its done.

5 megabytes per minute x 24 tracks = 120 mb per minute

back to ruebarb's question
that's the first I heard that you could only record 8 tracks at a time... mike is that correct?
I'd assume you can do 24 at a time, since it's got 3 sets of lightpipe I/O (and 24 analog I/O)... but there could be a limitation in the software i suppose? What's the deal, Mike? I'm leaning heavily towards HD24, but I absolutely need to record at least 16 tracks at a once. 8 won't even get the drums down! ![]() Could you please clear this up? Much appreciated! Thanks |

24 tracks simultaneously for as long as your hard drive will allow!
Darrin, 5 megs a minute is correct but at 44.1/16 bit. HD24 is 24 bits at either 44.1 or 48K. I'm waiting for Engineering to get back to me. thanks! Mike P.S. Does anyone else have trouble with this site hanging up and getting REEEALLY slow? |

true, very true Darrin.
Usually, it's just me recording and playing ... so it's hard to get a good submix on drums while monitoring in headphones ... and playing. So I like to record each mic direct to a track ... and then submix later, if needed. It's not a big big kit ... but sometimes I use 2 mics on kick and 2 on snare, though. When I record other people, I like to have at least 16 just in case ... because I have run out before with some of the bigger groups. In those cases, I submix during basic tracks ... but I don't like doing that. I like doing that stuff when I can take my time a little more. So ... 24 simultaneous tracks is a good deal. ![]() |

Alesis has a great quality sound, but for mixing i like the Mackie better. Had a 16 channel Alesis once, sounded great, but was made of plastic. Making it not a viable gig mixer. Do they still make them that way? We went to Mackie. Mackie is solid like the old Peveys. The only problem is they cost a bit more. I was looking at the Mackie HDR24/96 24-Track Recorder and it was a whopping $3,999.00.
