Beware of inflated eBay prices for reel to reel parts
Postings on eBay for belts and hub adapters sometimes are double the price then what you can buy from Teac/ Tascam. Just a few weeks ago I was on eBay and found an auction for 1 used NAB hub adapter and the seller wanted $25.00 plus 5.00 for shipping. I made a call to Teac parts department and bought a new one for 15.05 Plus shipping. I paid 21 and change. Bottom line is when possible buy direct from Teac/ Tascam and save money. Has anyone ever come across this first hand? I would be interested to know.

Yep, I saw that same semi-scam a while back, when looking for a belt for a TASCAM 80.
Shameful. Thanks for reporting. |

I have come across it everyday of my life. I drive by stores of all kinds that have differant prices. Cars food clothes homes. Its nothing new. There is nothing wrong with it. Its one of the things this country was founded on.
But dont worry Obama is on his way to save us all from this kind of shit. Teac/tascam has been on his list for quite some time now to take over the company. We will all be share holders and the prices will be fixed so this kind of thing will never happen again. ![]() |

IMHO, it's wrong when the seller is banking on the fact that the general public won't be aware that they can order the parts direct or new from somewhere for less money. But true, unfortunately it does happen everywhere.
On a side note, I haven't been all that happy with some of the belt prices I've gotten from Teac, after having ordered generics from a third party. Belts which were close to ten bucks via Teac where about a dollar, and the majority of the machines I replaced gooey rubber in were factory belts so it isn't as if their quality accounts for the difference. My last batch from Teac was also poorly packaged with several in one baggie, leaving me to guess which was which. ![]() Take Care PS- How about the owner's/service manual racket?? Pay $25 for a handful of paper, or pay $24 to get it from a guy who (possibly) paid the 25 then made mass copies and opened his own store. ![]() - I will add that the last SM I ordered from eBay was put together better than the majority of my Tascam ones, but I've never seen the original on that (could've been nice, it was old). |
