HHB pre / tube help
I have a HHB Radius 10 preamp. I'd like to experimant with different tubes but have no manual or tube chart. It has Sovtec 12AX7WA's in it now. I prefer Tung-Sol in my guitar rigs and Mullard's have been mentioned in many HI-fi situations. Any help out there?

I saw your thread wasn't getting much attention yet so I thought I'd jump in. I had a Radius 10 and thought it did a pretty good job. Mostly because it responded well to a tube swap. I think I used JJ Tesla's. I think you'll notice a pretty big difference over the Sovtek's.
Another direction to travel would be Electro Harmonix 12AY7, 12AT7 as well as the 12AX7. The previous two have lower gain so you'll be using the solid state part of the pre a little more. The EH tubes seem to get a bit of love in the Home Rec world. BTW, from my experience, the tubes that run good in a guitar amp are not necessarily going to work well in a pre or microphone. Sort of a different animal I guess. Good Luck |
