Reasons for using an extension cab?

Just a curious question, say you got a 60w all tube 2x12 combo (like me), why might you want to add a 2x12 cab for example?

If you choose the impedance of your extension speaker correctly, you can increase the output produced by your combo's amp.

eg I have an old SWR Redhead Bass combo which is rated at 240w @ 4 ohms. But if I add an extension speaker (also rated at 4 ohms) I can get 300w out of the amp, due to the overall impedance becoming 2 ohms.

Of course, you might also add an extension speaker because you want a particular sound from a speaker cab...

Different speaker/cab voicings are a good reason.

I have an open back combo and a 1 x12 closed back cab, i will use them seperately or together for a few different options. The open back is more chimey, the closed more punchy.

Also, with an extension cab, you can put the cab in a closet or seperate room to mic with some degree of isolation if you want.
