Latency/Dropouts in SONAR 6.0 PE with new Lexicon U42S Interface
Hi, I have the following setup: U42S, SONAR PE 6.0, DELL D630 Laptop, 2G RAM, DUO CORE CPU.
I can record first track fine. When I record an overdub track I get latency so the tracks do not line up in SONAR. Currently the System Performance is set to NORMAL on the Lexicon ASIO Screen (Latency = 30ms/6 ms). If I set this to FAST, RAPID or HIGHSPEED, I get DROPOUT in SONAR and it stops recording. Other Lexicon ASIO settings = Application Priority = NORMAL, ASIO Resolution – 32 BIT (What dos this do ? I cannot seem to change this value). SampleRate= 44100/Resolution – 24 Bit. Other SONAR Options/Audio settings: I/O Buffer =128KB. SONAR mixing Latency reported as 5.8 msec. SONAR latency set to FAST. This latency causes much frustration. What can I do to reduce the latency of the overdub recording without getting a DROPOUT in SONAR? |

With a little help from someone at HC who uses PE 6....I set the latency offset to 1000 and successfully recorded several tracks to a song with what appears to be no latency. See the pic below for the spot. (OPTIONS/AUDIO/ADVANCED)....
Also - I left the speed at NORMAL, so it probably would still dropout. There were times when one CPU was 55% and then 3% so I assume it's taxing the CPU somehow... Last edited by ido1957; 05-17-2009 at 16:04.. |

I also turned off the Internet Switch on the side of the laptop. This prevented the audio stuttering and cutting out during recording. I left the latency/speed at NORMAL and so not sure how to prevent the DROPOUTS at higher speeds....

Lexicon got back to me after I posted the problem on their support website:
Hi, We are aware of this issue and are working to fix the offset that you are experiencing. In the meantime, you may want to try using the timing offset in Sonar under Options > Audio > Advanced. If you’d like, I can email you when an updated driver is available. Regards, Lexicon Pro Support |
