Question sansamp ? or not

I play a bass and I was thinking about getting the sansamp bass distortion driver, can anybody tell me if this is a worth while product? Am i wasting money?

I would appreciate any insight I could get from you all. As allways, you all rock.

The Bass Driver DI? It's got upsides and downsides....

The upside is that it does offer nice realistic sounding bass in a recording.

The downside is that it only seems to sound great in a recording. While you're using it live it sounds rather boring.

I guess the point is that it's very subtle...and only a big bass rig is going to *feel* like a big bass rig. The Bass Driver DI box does a good enough job that it does sound like a big bass rig in a recording. It's 100X better than just plugging in direct.

Some notes:

It sounds better when it's plugged into a preamp of some sort. It sounds best when the battery is fully charged or you're using phantom power. It works very well for a very specific tubey sort of guitar sound, if you run a regular guitar through it. Don't expect miracles...remember: *subtle*.

yeah and dont expect it to give you distortion... its not a distortion pedal. for that get a bass overdrive, rat or a big muff

If you have a small rig then get this thing it will give you much more presence and a overall better tone but if you already have a nice full size rig then only expect to use this for recording
