Countryman DI vs "Mic Pre"

What kind of sonic differences would I encounter putting a P Bass through a DI box as opposed to a mic pre (Mackie or VC6Q)? Besides the obvious of less tonal and gain control, are there any advantages to using the DI box?

do you always use a Di box for recording bass?

Is there a big differences b/t a tube mp used as a di as opposed to countryman?

i have been using meek6q, Art tube mp,and pres in my yamaha aw4416 and although am getting decent sounds the countryman sounds intriquing

AAAHHH....just scrolling the "old stuff"....I too have a countryman di........it is asgood as is possible !!!!really...........thats 'why' it costs so much more than most other di boxes....I use mine on ANY instrument that can be di'ed to my favorite pre...ie...dramer,tubewerks etc

Woops...old thread here. But since I'm looking for an active DI: Has anyone tried the Sunrise Lo-Z Box? How does it compare to a Countryman?

On the advice of 1 of the top dawgs here,GIDGE, I ordered 1 from
musiciansfriend and should be here by 2-morrow or Friday. Most anxious to give it a spin. Will most def'ly give MHO on it's performance here on this thread!
