Gonzo - I have to say great job. I can really find no major faults with the song or the production. Crazy good guitar playing by the way. I like the way the vocal sound works with the acoustic part better then I liked the way it sounded with the heavy part... to my ears on this crappy system at work, it sounds to me like it needs to change and get more aggressive when you transition to the heavy part. Just my two cents. Nice work.

Totally dig the mix and sounds and pan. Your voice loves the mic.

The heavy part...yeah...loses something. I think I know what it might be and how I'd try to fix it:

The pan on the L&R electrics is too wide. The parts are remote from the groove..and really remote from each other. And the sounds in the outfield pull attention from the vox, when they're catching my ear. I think that's all it is!! 10% to center or something.

Nifty bag o' licks and skills.

Hey, great acoustic guitar sound. Out of curiosity, how did you get that sound? Im guessing its two mono overdubs panned hard L and R. The timbre of the sound is really smooth which I like. What mics and positions did you use?

Gonzo-x,
Bloody good - excellent acoustic sound.
The only thing I'm not stoked about is the drum roll into the change - I reckon it could've been more aggressive.
Excellent piece of work!

Great sound. The vocals sound rushed to me, like you're trying to fit too much into the time you have to say what your saying. They start offbeat, second verse starts on beat and they're all over the place in between. It kinda drags your attention away from that nice guitar playing.

I like your transition and the heavy section

ObeseArmadillo
thanks for rescuing this post from total obscurity!
LOL

the transition, that's tricky....
i think i've simply mixed the beginning part too loud, since my levels at the heavy part are already as high as i want to take them, i'll think i'll try simply bringing down the front end of it....
thanks for checking it out.

jeffmaher
panning on elecs and acoustics, eh?
the heavy part only has one electric, and one acoustic, and they're panned left/right....
it'd be easy enough to bring them in, but it seems most modern mixes these days, favor the heavy left/right treatment, dont' they?
i think i'll try a tighter pan, like you suggest....
thanks.

live42-
the acoustic is a taylor 414 concert, so that's half of it...
the other half is just getting real close to the mic, and finding the right angle where it picks up the sound i like without the woof from the soundhole.
the taylor can get real bassy, real quick.

it's just two tracks, panned left and right, but there there are 3 more acoustic solo tracks, that are doing simple melodies, harmonies and fills behind the acoustic rhythm tracks...

then when the heavy part comes in, everything drops out but one acoustic track, playing the same thing as the electric rhythm track (the old Boston acoustic/electric blend trick from way back when)

the mic, is a ADK Hamburg, and it's aiming at the spot where neck meets body, about 14" away.

rayc-
thanks for listening....
drum roll into the change.. you mean the snare press?
yeah, maybe i should automate that to be really hot just in that one spot..
good idea.

NYMorningstar
hey, thanks for giving it a listen...
you know, most of my recorded vox parts are 'dead on', by design...
same for this one, except just the opposite.... dead off!
LOL
actually, i really wanted this to be sloppy feeling, just EXACTLY the way it felt like, walking 'the strip'.

i wanted a real loose feel, ala the stones or early aerosmith, because it sounds so much more rock and roll that way, on this one, than when i tried the pretty tight vocal approach (which i did at first, and then shit-canned it.)

God damn fuckin' awesome.

Love the bass line, and your guitar work is always top notch. Hamburg sounds great on the acoustic.

Thanks for sharing. Wow.

Very cool indeed.

Love the sound of the acoustic.

Vox are rocking out as well.

Great brake when the rock sets in, loud and proud rawk at its finest.
awsome axe work too.

you`ve got gold here

Man , this rocks! I also love that acoustic sound you have captured...and the playing is just swingin' The heavy part is killer as well, kinda reminds me of Nuno Benntecourt /Extreme great guitar work...although the ending kinda left me empty and wanting more..seemed like it was ready to take off and just ended...I dig it!

Supercreep
thanks man!
yeah, the hamburg has become my favorite between it and the AT4033, for acoustic capture...
it doesn't hype the low end quite as much as the 4033 does, at the same distance from the guitar...
the bass, that's my trusty Carvin LB70

Nakatira
appreciate the listen
i WISHED i had gold here!
LOL
actually, i'm thinking of tacking on a slow-burn groove solo, at half-time, at the end of this, ala jesus just left chicago...
yeah, or neah?

queepy
very kind words, thank you.
nuno was such a monster player and writer with extreme, that band did like to swing, eh?
i remixed this, to make the front end a little more laid back, and make the hard part kick in harder and louder...
also re-panned the guitars towards the center more, and blended the solo work a bit louder...
