Live Flamenco

This I just dug out of the past.

I'd appreciate comments on the mixing or anything else.

Thank you

Wish I could hear more body of the accoustic guitar. In general, these guitar are pretty boomy, maybe the mic position was not helping that much. I hear some undesirable noises hear and there (finger noise, pick noise, string rattling) These are things that are difficult to control, especially on a live performance.

+'s: The guitarist has a very good sense of rhythm. The rasgueado rhythms (strumming) are well played. In the picado (scale) and arpeggio phrases the treble range of the guitar generally comes across as smooth in tone - good because flamenco guitars sometimes sound thin.

-'s: The guitar is way out of tune. The guitarist is struggling to play most of the picado phrases and the tremolo section - but as I said before, to his credit even though parts are kind of ragged and tentative sounding, he keeps the rhythm. Some editing out of awkward picado and tremolo phrases could help. When Melodyne DNA comes out you might be able to use it to fix the tuning problems. The rasgueado sections sound like there's a piezo in the mix. If so, I'd take the piezo out if you can. Maybe it was just the tone of the guitar.

Thanks so much for your time and comments XLR!

This gig was thrown together last year in one night and none of us ever met. We were introduced and that was it, time to play

We played up in a balcony of a large hall and I tracked this guy Kevin with 2 Nt5's and an LDC on a Tascam neo. I thinking being unfamiliar with each other made him a bit nervous plus solo in a strange place is a tuff deal in front of a crowd. This was his third tune which probably accounts for the guitar being a bit out of tune.

There wasn't any piezo but what you're hearing may be from the PA feeding back through the mics or like you said, just the tone of the guitar. I basically did no editing to this but I'm going to give your suggestions a try.

All in all I thought he was awesome so I thought I'd share.

I have another I'll post up over the weekend if I get a chance.

Thanks again...

I'm surprise that even I could hear some OOTness in the guitar - I'm not good at that usually.
Some very good passages & worth the listen.

I'd like to hear a bit more closeness but that's just my personal taste on classical stuff. There is a definite eveness throughout that does not go unnoticed - so the recording and mixing is good. There's a muffle around 2:50 ?? The guitar is out of tune in spots but almost sounds like a combo of tuning plus intonation. He can play like nobody's business can't he?

That's what I'm talkin about.

Screwin around I threw a synth plugin on this and my lava lamp erupted

Thx for the observations and comments ido1957 and rayc.
