FW-1884 MIDI problem

I have what i think is a midi problem..
I run an FW-1884 with logic pro 7 and a g5mac
I am in the strange situation whereby my tascam will only function when my M-audio midi keyboard is connected to the mac..

if i disconnect it, a window appears in logic saying:

'instrument "untitled" sends to a midi port named "keystation 61e" of midi interface "keystation 61e" which no longer exists.

in then tells me the number of midi inputs and outputs has changed - now 8 inputs and 7 outputs are available.

Its at this point the FW1884's transport functions dont work..

another oddity is that if I hit the 2nd E note on midi keyboard, Logic starts recording!!

its driving me up the wall now! any ideas?? I actually am thinking of selling the tascam, but obviously want to make sure its working properly before i do..

i am not sure but you may have a midi map issue you can use the tascam control panel to map your device, i am having a control issue with the tascam and protools but i had to map my midi so maybe it will work for you that should stop the strange control issue and fix it. i hope it works
