Bass Drum Thump/Slap Sound

How do I get my bass drum to sound like Mike Portnoy's? I want the thump/slap sound.

You can get close with tuning and placement.
I've got my beater skin pretty loose, like just tighter than wrinkles with my reso slightly tuned up from there.
For the mic, I'll go up close on the inside, to get more click and back it out for more oomph.
Experiment around, you can get close.
