Tascam 246 4-track problem

HI
I have an old tascam 246 multitrack recorder. used it alot up to 2 years ago. got a digital recorder and put the 246 in the closet for 2 years. in a dry spot

plugged it in tonight to listen to some old tapes and when i press play, it just goes in crazy fast forward speed

any ideas? let it warm up a few hours and see? seems like its suddenly dieing on me

is there something i can check?

Thanks

Arrow Belt.

The capstan drive belt has stretched and slipped down to now be riding on the flange of the pulley, instead of the center. Hence, the faster than normal playback. This would indicate the belt needs replacement. I've used 11.5"~11.7" belts to refurbish 244's & the 246.

Pull the bottom off the unit & tell me if I'm wrong.

You're welcome.

OK. took back off. capstan belt was wrapped around the bigger pully. sticky and stretched out.

how do i get the new one on? there is that metal bracket covered in wires with two screws...I assume I loosen the screws and I will have access?

Also, any good source for the belt?

Thanks

oh, and while I am in there, I might as well replace the smaller belt. the one that attaches to a white plastic pully.

Do you know what that one is called, what size it is, and where to get one?

Thanks. I appreciate your help

Tascam 246 Belts

The Tascam 246 Service Manual says:

Part No. 5800275300 - BELT, CONTROL
Part No. 5800275200 - BELT, CAPSTAN

I'd like to know where to buy them too!
