Using onboard effects on DP-02

Hi.Just got a DP-02 last week & have had limited success recording tracks. The owners manual leaves much to be desired.I'm also not very computer savvy or digitally experienced,so please bear with me...I can't figure out if you have to use the effects when recording or if you have the option of adding them later, during mixdown or something. It would be better if you can get the tracks down first and then experiment with different effects! I'd also like to know if I can put my "scratch" mixes (just 2 or 3 tracks)on a cd without losing the capability to flesh out the rest of the tracks later.Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can record with effects or add effects after you have recorded. I think it's best to record without effects and then add them when listening to playback or when you are ready to do your final mix. Same with EQ. I haven't done it yet on my DP-02, but you can import wav files as tracks. In other words, you can load your disc with previous tracks already recorded into your computer and then import the wav file track(s) you want back into your DP-02 through the USB connection. Hope this helps.

Tascam Effects

Thanks,Jugband...Only thing is,I forgot to give enough details in my question. My DP-02 isn't hooked up to my PC.I was hoping I could somehow add the effects during mixdown or mastering-but can't find anything in the manual about how and when to apply the effects.I have the model that writes to CD,not the one with the card.

You can add effects during mixdown or mastering. Tweak the effects the way you want them while listening to playback of your tracks. You can listen to playback multiple times and try different things until you are satisfied. When you feel like you know what you want to do with the overall mix, then you can create your master. When recording the master track any adjustments you make will be permanent. For instance, if you recorded a solo part on track 2 and you want to boost the volume during the solo, boost the fader on track 2 up during the solo then slide it back down when the solo is finished. Any fader moves, or effects that you do when you record the master track will be reflected when you listen to playback and you won't have to manually do them anymore. Just have fun with it and you will learn from experience. If you create a master track and don't like it or mess up, just delete it and try again. There is no right or wrong. Keep me posted on how it's going. I'll help when I can.
