Who are you?
I'm sure this will get moved somewhere, but this seemed to be the least restrictive part of this BBS so . . . . .
Who are all of you? I mean outside of music/recording who are you? Single/married/etc? Is music/recording your main source of income or are you a hobyist? What other things interest you? Please, no flaming in here, let's just get to know each other. I'm Nate. I'm 25 and have a wife and two kids. I am in the military (which isn't usually popular on music related sites, but that's ok since my politics don't really line up with my job anyway.) Music has always been a major part of my life and recording became a part because i don't have the option to visit other studios. I love to play poker and study people. I'm very interested in politics and, most importantly, I love long walks on the beach. (ok, maybe not . . . ) Now, your turn. Who are you? |

Im Jason
![]() you can hear alot of my stuff @ www.jasonbrianmerrill.com I am 28, formerly involved heavily in religious activities and debt collection (interesting)... i've moved alot (eastern, southern USA and Canada) and experienced alot and now im going to college for education and computer science. My take on religion has changed alot - but i still try and attain to the morals i once did. I am currently dating, but unmarried... i record bands locally, and play gigs at local bars (scranton area). I give guitar lessons to kids regularly, and spend ALOT of money on music gear i probably dont need. It's basically a hobby, but i try to make the most professional recordings in the scranton area (which isnt saying much if you have heard the average band's demo around here lol) and i think i do a pretty good job. I use REAPER primarily for my multitrack software, and have been involved in testing it nearly since its inception. |

Nice to meet everyone,
My name is Dustin. I'm 22 years old and engaged to my wonderful fiance Amanda. ![]() I've always been interested in learning everything I can. (ie: In high school, I was the kid in the back of math class MAKING graphing calculator games instead of playing them haha.) ![]() I currently run a volunteer recording studio in the local Youth for Christ building downtown, though it's mainly being run out of my house while we're SLOWLY accepting donations to get this thing off the ground. Really though, I'm just a normal guy with a passion for learning and teaching. During the day I scan documents for a credit union that is going "paperless." Weekends I work on a Sonic the Hedgehog Fan Character website I built for my fiance. And a couple nights a week are either spent with The Legend of Zelda or Discovery Channel and it's partner stations. I have been involved in audio since 2004 and am lucky enough to have had the opportunity to intern with Dave Hill of Cranesong, LTD through the local community college. (Haha he has a giant inflatable pterodactyl in his live room.) Eventually I plan on opening my own small commercial studio geared towards budget-minded and/or minimum-wage artists to give them quality results at an extremely affordable rate. Until then, I just plan on enjoying whatever God brings my way. What about you? |

My name is Claus; I am 48, Danish by birth, and have been in the US (Washington DC) since 1980.
My "regular" job is as a free-lance broadcast videographer (corporate/news/government.) I took piano and 1 yr. of guitar when I was young, but I never applied myself to the theory. I also dabbled with recording along the way when I could (I didn't own gear at the time.) In 2001 I made the jump, bought a Yamaha stage piano and a Tascam 8-track DAW and began pursuing music again for the fun of it. Later I picked up a Fender bass to complement the piano and guitar. I have been involved in a few on-line collaborations and I now am writing songs as best I can. I now have a Tascam 2488 and some good mics so my demos are sounding better and better. I have been married for 22 years; luckily my wife loves music, even though I do get comments about the amount of gear in our admittedly small apartment (the universal condition for any home musician )Besides music, I love films (from silents through today), cooking, museums, WW2 and history in general. C. |

Doug, 36, Milwaukee.
Self employed IT contractor, I work about 50 hours/wk, mostly programming linux, php, java, mysql, and pretty much anything opensource. I charge companies a little less than Avaya, Oracle, Microsoft, etc. would for the same functionality. I also set up servers, phone switches, and wiring from time to time. Since high school, I've ALWAYS been in the local band scene, sometimes 2 bands at a time. Now that I have the family life going on, I don't have the time to get to practice 2+ times a week, so I'm on hiatus for now.. When the kids get older I'll be back into it. So I'm getting my fix now by playing in my basement studio, tracking riffs and ideas, etc.. I'm primarily a guitarist, but I can play a lot of instruments a little bit. I can play 3 songs on piano so well ppl think I'm a great pianist, and they dont believe I can't play anything else I've tinkered with recording since high school as well, in that I'd run the PA mixer into a pc sound card line-in and track. Sounded like ass... Recently I've been getting more serious about it and buying mics, interface, etc..Besides that, I like hard metal in general, especially unknown local / underground / indie bands nobody's ever heard before. I've found a lot of gems around this forum, myspace, etc.. Car audio rox, I got an awesome Alpine / JL / Kicker system, that's where I evaluate a LOT of new music, since I spend so much time in the car.. Poker, I played online as a part time job for years till the feds cracked down. That pisses me off, that was a major source of income for me at the time.. I love motorcycles, I don't currently have one, but my last bike was a Yamaha 1100 that was WAY too big for me. I have a soft spot in my heart for Colt 1911 .45 ACP's for the firepower, and Glock G17's cuz they're so light and cute And I do enjoy beer. Not the beerwater made by miller/budweiser/etc, I'm talking about dark thick BEER like sierra nevada, sprecher, smithwick's, etc.. Stuff you can't see thru..

How's it going everyone?!
Name is Nick, I'm 25, living in Omaha Nebraska. Just medically retired from the US Army Infantry after only 5 years of service. Working behind a desk now at a litigation support/e-Discovery company. I am married, known my wife since I was like 5 or something. Been married for just under 3 years. We have a dog, and no kids. Thinking about having kids within a year or so. We bought our first house about 6 months ago, and have spent the past 5 months remodeling it. If anyone is interested in taking a weekend off, and wants to come to Omaha to jam/record/drink, just shoot me a PM and we can make something happen. It has been a long time since I have gotten a chance to jam with other musicians (5+ years). So let me know! Nick |

I'm Kelly...44 yrs old/young depending on how much beer I drank the night before
Married for almost 20 years, 2 kids, 4 dogs 1 turtle. Been playing music in one form or another for about 35 years. Started on the clarinet but it was hard to be cool when you were playin clarinet. So I moved to bass clarinet. Then I moved to sax and that was pretty cool. Started on guitar about 30 years ago, chopped off a fretboard finger 29 years ago which, at first, sucked...but has made me develop a different kinda style (to say the least) A little keyboards here n there and finally started playin the drums about 4 years ago and am seriously diggin em. Ya don't need all yer fingers for drums. ![]() Been at the same place of work for 15 years and am damn good at what I do. ![]() I watch about 3 hours a week of TV and don't miss it. I've found that the best things in life start with "B" beer, booty, boo,,,,,,nevermind...you get the gist. ![]() |

I love Bright Eyes. The label their "front man" started years ago (Saddle Creek) is based out of Omaha. They've got another fav. of mine "Two Gallants." 2Gs are out of San Fransisco though. Anyway, yeah.
It would be a drive, but there is so little in my area that it would be a welcomed treat! We'll see what happens. I gotta get out of here first (recording in a 10x10 room and two peoples stuff in there is not a fun experience!!!) |

Age 51, inspired to play music by seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 1963/4. Married, three kids, 28, 24, 10. Occupation: CIO for a unit of government. Came close to doing music full time in the early 1980s, with my band, X-teens, who released three records in the US, Europe and Japan, with a video in rotation on MTV.
Now I have a detached studio, strictly for hobby purposes. It's a great space, 23' X 16' with a 14' vaulted ceiling. Here's my stuff: http://www.toddejones.com/jukebox.html

Ello, muh names James.
I'm 19 (Guess I'm the youngest so far). Live in Brownsburg, Indiana (suburb of Indianapolis). Work at a car dealership and have done about everything there one time or another (customer service, cashier, service advisor, parts counterperson, shuttle van driver). If you're a drag race fan I live less than a mile from Oreilly Raceway Park (formally the IRP) home of the drag Nationals. Got into music about 7 years ago and never looked back. I've played guitar for 7 years, piano for two (though I haven't done much since I quit lessons last year), and I just got a drumset this year. I've got a small rig in my room which is nearly unenterable due to the drumset in the middle of it, my guitars and amps around it, my piano against the wall, and my pc and monitors. I use PT. Been at it for about 3 years. Been dating muh woman for two years now... And I'll be attending Indiana University-Purdue University for Music Technology this August. |

My name is Aaron. I'm 19. I live in the STL MO area, in an apartment with my wife and kid.. I've been married for about a year. I just had a baby boy (not by accident) and I am an electrician, graduated from vatterott when I was 17. Couldn't stand high school, to many people getting high, and getting drunk. I don't do drugs, I don't drink. I am not religious. I barely make anythin recording, but spend all the money I have to spare on gear. I also ride motocross and play guitar/bass. Very expensive hobbies.

Okay, I'll bite!! My name is Dave, I'm one of the moderators. And, yup, this thread is gonna get moved.... but, maybe not today.
(If I do move it, it will go to Jenni's Place. I know, I know, but it's the best fit for this thread. )I'm 46, been playing music since I was 9. Piano and guitar mostly (and Bass Clarinet, too - for you DogBreath!! ) Used to run sound for a few cover bands some of which did well here in the Austin area. Steady gig on 6th street, tons o' fun. That was a long time ago. Write and record my songs, hope one day to get a song picked up by a top name performing artist. Austin is a great place to get that done. Ride the harley, got a sailboat in Virginia that I miss. Used to fly planes, but that got too expensive. I did my time in the US Submarine Force. Glad I did it, glad I got out. Now I work in semiconductors. Married with two beautiful little ones. Enjoy life everyday. ![]()

me
what's up. i'm 24, live in FL and hate it here. i want to move out west to arizona or something, as i've always loved the canyonlands.
i started playing bass in high school, influenced by bands like blink182, the ataris, fenix tx, and all those pop-punk bands at the time. i later became really into thrice and the post hardcore scene. now i am kinda all over the place, into the menomena, nick drake, architecture in helsinki, etc. i have been in way too many bands, so i kinda dropped that and started doing my own thing. home recording is great and i love having the freedom to just record what i want, when i want, and when i eventually get enough material together to record a decent full-length album, i plan on starting a band again. financing my musical ambitions is a problem, and my gear is not good enough to charge other bands for demos and whatnot, so i am trying to start my own businesses outside of music to help me out with the money situation. when i am not listening, playing or recording music, i am watching movies (i'm a big netflix buff), eating good food, reading, or exploring the outdoors. i am not married, but i have been with my g/f for over 6 years and we currently live together. |

Hi. I'm Steven. 56 years old and 2 plus years stroke survivor. I'm married, have 4 kids, 34, 32, 30, 27. And 9 grand children.
Been a musician most of my life. Started playing drums when I was about 14 or so now play drums, bass, and rythm guitar. With a " very limited " ability at lead guitar. Never got interested in any recording until a year ago. I have went digital, using the old stlys stuff. Ya know ...... reel to reel tape recorder, analog mixer, etc. And like most of you, I spen way to much money on recording gear. Currently have all my "stuff" set up and recording in my living room until I get a diff. place that I can set up as a dedicated home recording studio. Being a newbie, I have got a lot of help from a lot of you ppl here and thank you all. ![]() |

Frank here. Live in Long Beach, CA most of the year, but spend winters in FL.
Into Euro cars, good food and music. Had a little studio back east about 10 years ago, and got bored with it and sold it off. Just decided to do it again, and it should be complete in about a month. Got a nice space and some great gear, and am looking forward to learning how to work all of it. Any seasoned studio guys in the SoCal area? Hit me up! Always looking for great vocalists, and horn players.
