Cat 5 Cable?
I have the chance to score over 10,000 feet of Cat-5 cable, dirt cheap. I am going to be involved in wiring my son's recording studio, and my church for sound, soon. Seems to me, I saw here someone said it was okay to use for line-level wiring? Sure would save me a TON of money if it was.
Given it has 8 conductors, I won't need all 10,000 feet, so I can share... |

Is it one big wire with no plugs, or is it many smaller wires with the plugs? If it's the later, i may have to strike a deal with you as i am a freelance IT networker and i use so much CAT5 cable, i just need it with plugs. Many Thanks!

Wow, I forgot about this thead! When I posted it, I remembered someone mentioning Cat 5 cable in reference to studio wiring, but could not recall if it was "good" or "bad." Then I stumbled across the website or forum again- and read that it was NOT recommended.
Thanks, anyway. |

I can't say anything regarding the line level wiring but the DIY braided CAT5 speaker cables illustrated here:
http://www.venhaus1.com/diycatfivecables.html are the cat's meow. I actually made a pair and they really impressed me and an audiophile friend of mine. |
