Here's the deal, I have an asr-10 that I make my beats on. I want to record the beats to
tape and also record vocals from my turntable over the beats. I have recorded the beats to tape
using my regular home stereo but there is tooooooo much hiss. If I get a Tascam Porta 02
will I be able to record the beats and vocals with limited hiss? I heard that the Porta 02 uses regular
tapes that you can play in your car, is this true? What would I hook the Porta 02 up to, the asr or the
two channel mixer? All I want to do is add some accapella's to my beats and make some little albums
to mess around with, is there any other four track recorder that is comparable to the Porta 02, like
maybe the Fostex, but I think you have to mix down your mix on a home stereo.......? Help would be nice

The final mix could also be done on a PC with for example Cool Edit, you won't get the hiss you get when mixing it down to a home stereo.

You could use a Tascam for mixing the things together.
Just connect your asr to one input, the vocals or whatever on two, en record it. Or if you want, you can overdub.

Then you could do the following (quite annoying to do but is is a good way to get less hiss on a normal stereotape)

1. Connect Tascam tape to computer, push record (on computer) and play on Tascam and mixdown you like it.
2. Because Tascam tapedeck runs two times faster, use your software to slow your mix down 50%.
3. Connect computer with a split-cable to the first two inputs of the Tascam, these are left and right on one side of the tape so normal stereo.
4. Push record on Tascam, play on computer, and because the tape runs two times faster and the mix is two times slower, the final result will be normal tempo on a normal stereotape.

There are a lot of different ways to do, but this is the way I do.
