Thumbs down Guitar Mag Can't Be Wrong

I was going through some of my old mags and realized why I have such a hard time learning music from paper, if you check out fig 12 at this link and listen to the mp3 http://www.guitaronemag.com/issues/1...partment2.html and try to play it like it's written, it's damn near impossible, and it's not the same thing, I hear it more like this

--------8-----8/10--8-----------|--------5------------------------|
--------8-----8/10--8-8-------8-|--------5------------------------|
--------9------------(9-10-9)-7-|--------5---------5------5-------|
---------------------------------|------------5--7-(7-8-7)-5----(5)|
---------------------------------|----------------------------8--7-|
8--------------------------------|7--------------------------------|

well something like that anyway, a little bit of a ghost note chord on the first note of each measure but nothing like the lessons written. I'm supposed to learn like this? If I was a beginner I'd just give up on it.

just bitching
