quick and dirty acoustic treatment

OK, here's the deal. I desperately need to get my album done. (You can hear one of the ROUGH, ROUGH mixes at http://www.myspace.com/joshmarihugh . The song is "Hold Me (Rough Mix)." )

As I noted elsewhere, I have el-cheapo drums, although they have fairly decent live tone. The room is problematic. It is our church auditorium. We're right on a busy highway, with a railroad track right across the way...sermon tapes are often marred by trains or even loud semis on the highway.

I'm looking for a quick and dirty way to acoustically treat at least the area around the drum kit so I can get some halfway decent recordings. It needs to be something I can do in a hurry and also remove in a hurry, as I don't want anything distracting during a service, so I'll have to remove it for Sunday morning and Wednesday night.

I was thinking about dragging out the office cubicle walls that we have stashed in one of the back rooms, but these things are monster heavy, so I'd hate to move them if they're not going to help.

That sounds liked the fastest way to solve your problem, and they will absolutely do the job. The weight issue might be something you can fabricate some wheels onto for future ease of transport.
Second idea would be to surround the kit with blankets using coat racks or the like. Good luck.
