Drum Silencer?
I was browsing the internet and found this site that is selling Drum Silencer Systems.
My questions is do you think they would actually be effective at silencing the sound of drums? If so, what do you think the effect would be the recordings produced in a unit like this? ![]()

![]() ![]() Oh Come on.....You know I never complain about the music!! I was just trying to find a way to keep the neighbors from complaining if we would move into a semi-detached house. But thanks for posting the "wife-silencer. Is that cheaper than a booth? 'Cause I was going to suggest getting an extra booth for our bedroom to put our bed in! Damn neighbors.

Hehe...But in all seriousness....
I can't imagine that thing being good for recording. A tiny room with panes of glass sounds like a recipe for disaster. It's probably good for rehearsing. Also, since I record everything myself, I need to have a way to press record on my recorder and walk to the drums, ready to play within 10 seconds. Can't see that happening with this thing. |

Interesting concept. I like how it's $199.00 extra for a door. I wonder how useful it is without the door?
Give's new meaning to the term "trap drumset". |

I don't think it will. Pretty sure that the plexi shield on the front is normally just intended to attenuate some high frequency sounds. You'll see these in live applications a lot when the lead vocal is using a condenser mic. It keeps some of the bleed from the cymbals out of the vocal track. Unfortunately, I don't think it will do much for anything else.

No. I think you have it wrong.......
This is intended for use in the PLEDGEtm CHALLENGE!
Although it might be helpful for protecting a drummer from an overly amorous guitarist or lead singer that thought he was just "too cute" (you how those "pretty boys" can be. )![]() Quote:

I read this things cut "80%" of the sound. That's a whopping 10 dB.

It's temporary, and can make things worse, but I've found that beer is the most effective emergency drum silencer.
Lots and lots of beer can silence the drums for longer periods. (edit: thread silencer? -- I was just kidding! )Last edited by antichef; 03-17-2009 at 05:28.. |

the worse is when you don't make it in time and you have to rush back to stop it.
