What About This Setup
After some learning, and some advice, I am planning on getting;
CAD M9 Microphone M-Audio Profire 610 Now I am pretty sure that is all I need, other than Monitors, Headphones because I am not getting a mixer. Am I wrong about that? (I am a Newbie, I'm Sorry) Also I am still wondering what Studio Monitors and Headphones to get, I am going to get some cheap ones for now. What are some good cheap Monitors and Headphones for Hip-Hop? I'm not sure at the type of room I will be in because I'm moving so I'm not worried about Soundproof and all that yet. |

After reading some bad review of the Profire 610, I'm now thinking about getting the Presonus Firebox. Better or Worse?

Wellll, I looked it up and didnt see to many reviews on the profire, so Id say with go something you can at least find reviews on..
The firebox got a lot of pretty good reviews, I have the firestudio and im happy with it, so I dont see how a smaller version could horrible haha plus youll save $100 to go towards something else! So tell me what you budget is and what kind of stuff your recording...interface your going to/want to use

I was told that the CAD M9 was a better choice than the Rode NT1A n the NT2A, by someone on here. Also I just read on the link that you gave me that if you have a deep voice it doesn't work that well, and I have a very deep voice.

Well it depends on what monitors you go with, because they have different outputs/inputs...but if you went with the krks go with something like this..
I just picked these up earlier cause my local store recommened them...but they are $45 each hah, but if you can afford that, you will never have to buy a cable ever again cause it has a lifetime guarantee and mogami is the "industry standard" mic cable (if anyone disagrees dont be mad! im sure there are better cables somewhere im just speakin in generalities )http://www.frontendaudio.com/Mogami_...ble_p/6425.htm

a little late to chime in but I'd skip the mogami mic cable for $50. That's far from budget and is way overpriced. Get some cables from Audiopile.net. Cables that I personally think give cables like the mogami a run for their money. And for the price of the Mogami you could get a bunch of these.

I've gotten a lot of cables from audiopile from the talk the cables get on here. I couldn't be happier. Only place I get my mic cables from now. Hell you could still probably take those cables back.

If you're at the point where you can actually tell a difference in your recording/monitoring chain between a $10 and a $50 cable then you're probably sitting on a couple hundred grands worth of profession studio gear and so the extra $40 on cables really wouldn't be an issue

Numerous studies have been done with blind tests of folks on the street and audio guys alike testing recordings made with "High end cables" setups vs stuff using cheap crappy cables and in every case no one was able to pick which was which. in future I'll try not to be funny so as not to offend you |

I'm not a Fan of a condensor mic for vocals in general in the home recording scenario. they are very often hyped on the high end and pick up way too much background and room. I like the Shure SM 7b. Nicely flat response and a dynamic cartoid setup that can take a lot of the "Bad" room out of the mix You don't physically need a mixer you can do this with the computer but you will need some kind of mixing software, reaper is fairly well liked and CHEAP!! ($50) I'm a Sony ACID PRO Man myself. Started out with Studio and always liked the workflow it just makes sense to me. Most of the software manufacturers will allow you to download and use a trial version of their programs for 30 days so you can get an idea of which one is best suited to you (Sony ACID, Reaper, Cubase, Sonar, Pro Tools etc) In terms of Monitors again there are a lot of them and if you ask 10 different people which is the best you'll get 10 different answers. Ideally if you can get a good music store that will let you try them for a couple of days and return for a refund if they are not to your taste then you can audition a few M-audio, KRK, Behringer, Yamaha, Alesis, Edirol, Makie, tascam all make entry level monitors, none of them are perfect but will likely be a little more acurate than computer speakers my own choice at an entry level would probably be KRK RP5s but that's just one mans opinion. Headphones. Should be closed back other than that really whatever you like. No one is making audio gear specifically for a genre of music. you want mics that accurately carry the vocal to the interface, You want an innterface that gives a transparent conversion of the audio to a digital signal, Software that you can effectively manipulate the captured sound with and then monitors that enable you to accurately hear and mix your tracks whatever kind of stuff you make. |
