first time tracking- problems... help!

I tried tracking some guitar for the first time but there were some problems.

First before I even setup an audio track, I could hear everything the microphone was picking up, so how do I get rid of that? The only time I should hear what the mic is picking up is during recording when I arm the track to record and for monitoring, which was not done...

During tracking, the level sounded great through the headphones. The meter was reading just below clipping.

During playback, the level was ridiculously low, I could barely even hear it. The output meter was reading very low as well, and even when I raised the fader for the output volume all the way, it was still ridiculously low, how can I fix this?

I'm using Cubase LE.

Thanks!!

Sounds like your sound card settings are set wrong.

well here's what I've done, so you can tell me what's wrong.

I go to device setup and click on VST Audio System and select Audiobox USB (2) for the ASIO Drive. The audio buffer size is set to 192 samples. Input Latency is read at 10.975 and output latency is the same. (I'm pretty sure this is considered pretty high, how do I get this lower?)

I go to VST Connections in the device menu. Under Bus Name it says Stereo In, under that it says left and under that it says right. Under audio device it says audiobox usb (2). Under Device Port it says Audiobox USB L and under that Audiobox USB R (these are in the same row as the left and right under stereo in)

Then I click add bus, and I add 1 mono in and under Device Port, I select Audiobox USB L. Then I go to the Output tab and add a mono out and under Device Port I select Audiobox USB R.

so what's wrong here? what should I change?

thanks!

I just started using it and had similar problems...your VST setting are different than mine from what you stated but yuo can try this and see if it works....

For the VST Set up "Audiobay" I have been using "Lexicon USB ASIO"

Then for the bus setup: (I first remove any bus on the output bus menu)
Select Add Bus and add a stereo (1)

Bus Out:
stereo

I then remove any input bus: then select "add bus"

Bus In:
Stereo In
Stereo L
Stereo R

(add extra bus - select mono "2" (not 1))
This will show under the stereo...
mono 1
Mono 2

Now your back to the main screen...I select "Add Track" and the hit the "E" button to pull up the track Equalizer box...I change the input from mono to stereo L..(I know weird but worked)...

Now I just start recording.
-------------------------------------

I can hear my mic before I start recording as well. To get rid of that just hit the small volume button to the right of the "track name" such as audio 01. This will turn it on and off for play back/recording.

Again, I am a noob myself but these things seemed to work for me when having similar issues...good luck!

What meter? If it's the Cubase meter it should read about -18dbfs.

That's not what I asked....

You said you have the AudioBox USB. When I googled it, I pulled up this presonus interface. Do you have this unit?? If so, what position is the knob with the Big Red X??
