HD24 file transfers
Hi. im relatively new to this site. I use the Alesis HD24, a Mackie 24/8 mixer,
I also have the M-Audio/Protools software. I originally purchased the M-Audio,Projectmix I/O but seldom use it due to the complexities of protools and my lack of computer skills. (I say this to avoid divulging my lack of intelligence). Anyway, on the subject of file transfers from the HD24 to computer and back, I use the Alesis Fireport to send my files to the computer where I can use Protools to mix or add plugins, etc. This doesn't take long at all. Likewise, the same method back to the HD24. In some of the posts you guys mention Lightpipe as a file transfer method. Who makes it? Is it expensive? Is it better than the Fireport? thanks for any knowledge you can offer. Terry Wetzel ![]() |

Terry, for lightpipe you need something like(which I use) a motu 2408 mk 1 mk2 or mk3.There are 3 sets of lightpipe each carrying 8 tracks for a total of 24. It works well but not really faster than fireport,it's real time. Unless you are needing to record a bunch of tracks at one time into computer, stick with the fireport

Sure ,for the Motu 2408 the mk ( or mark) 3 is the newest with the pci424 card.Older units are the 2408 mk2 ( it has the pci324 card)and the 2408....no mk!Thats the real old one. I "think" the only difference between the mk3 and the mk 2 is the mk 3( the newest version) goes to a higher sample rate...but I may be wrong, just can't remember.
