Question advice needed

Sorry, I accidentally posted this on the computer recording and soundcards forum, but here it is.

I have a Macbook Pro, 2.16 with 4G RAM, and thougth that it be nice to try garageband, well, I did some stuff to my satisfaction do to the simplicity of what I was doing, not a major project, so, I tried recording a few software instruments tracks in a new prokect wndow, then I overdubbed a new real instrument track over the stocked software ints tracks, it didn't sync with the recorded tracks, I was monitoring with headphones and all was ok, but the computer played it back all out of sync and distorted.
What can I be doing wrong?
Are the software instrument tracks too much for the software so that it goes out of sync do to latency?

PS:USB hardware, monitoring through USB hardware in system prefences and GB prefenrences.

Try using a metronome while recording and on playback. I've had a similar problem with a PC. Won't hurt to try.

Thanks for the reply!

I do use a metronome, actually I had the metronome on while recording and playback.

It's just that I have to cut and move back the event to play it in sync, like I said before, while recording and monitoring it's all fine, but as soon as I hit the spacebar to stop recording, everything just moves a little forward, so I have to adjust it a little cutting the beginning and then snap it back to the grid to make it sync.
