Looking for a control computer surface

I was looking at something like this


it says it supports pro tools, but when I looked at the date of the reviews, they span back to 2004. didn't know if it would still be able to work with pro tools le 7. that's the recording software I have btw, so I need a ccs that will support it. I would rather stay around the $600 range, rather than having to fork out $1200 for the cheapest Digidesign one. any suggestions, or confirmation that the above one is still able to work with pro tools and is a good product?

Yes that will work.

However I would recommend the Command 8. You just plug it in and it works - no fuss.

what type of fuss do you think it could cause? because my interface is a mbox 2 mini, would that change whether or not I could use it?

Nope the interface you use won't affect it.

I just quite like the Command 8. It's purpose built for Pro Tools, by the people who make Pro Tools. It works.

There's nothing wrong with the Mackie, I'm sure but I'd opt for the Command 8.

Anyone here used the Mackie?

either would work. I've used the Mackie before and it's fine. Just see which one has the features that you would like better...and check up on the reviews of the units and how it works with Pro Tools. Some surfaces' buttons don't all work with Pro Tools.

yea, I just realized that the mackie I was looking at would need a MIDI connection, something my mini doesn't have. Just broke the seal on the box this morning too, just the kind of luck I'm used to all the ones that basically do the same thing, except with a usb connection, cost around the same as the command 8...looks like I'll just go for that.

you can get the M-Audio UNO and have MIDI in with your PT setup.

Yea im realizing i probably should have went the m powered route for more hardware flexibility but guitar center said once i break the seal on the box i cant return it so rite now im going to try and salvage it with digidesign hardware and farther down the road once i learn all the intricacies of pro tools and compatible hardware ill decide on making the switch to m-powered. By then who knows, m-audio might be compatible with le

no no, you misunderstood.
The M-Audio Uno isn't one of the Pro Tools M-Powered interfaces. It's a dedicated MIDI interface that works not only with an M-Powered setup, but also Pro Tools LE, Pro Tools HD and Pro Tools TDM...as well as other software programs. It's just an easy, cheap way to get MIDI into Pro Tools. I use one with my TDM setup for MTC

wow thanks for that tip...did some quick reviews and people are complaining about it not communicating with some devices though, have you used it with a mackie, or know of a cheap control surface that works as a midi device also that I could use in pro tools, that would be compatible with this
