Mixing with Cubase Questionare!!!!!!!!

Ummm.. I've just started mixing with Cubase LE4.. I like to think I have been pretty good so far at mixing my tracks, but what I've been trying to do for some time is .. when I'm mixing down my track in the final process.... How do I select or hightlight certain areas of that track to, let's say add some compression to "ONE" particular part that would be different then the rest of that track... Mainly in the beginning of that track? and another.. and if there is a way, does that apply to adding effects as well?

You can apply automation to all your FX. But if it is something really drastic like a major compression change, sometimes what I will do is cut and paste the part with the different effect to a new track and have that track play with the new compression and then jump back to the other track for the rest of your song. There may be a better what to do that. But that is the way around it that I use and it works fine. Make sure you copy and paste all the track setting to the new track though. That way any EQ or whatever else you have set up is the same.

What I would do is either automate it (can get very messy and confusing unless your on top of it) or you can, as mentioned, create a new track.

Once you have layed the track down, right click and say "Duplicate track", this keeps all your original settings. Then just apply the extra effects you want to have. I find it especially useful with filters, and other drastic effects that are only happening for a short space of time.

Be sure to name the tracks accurately though.
