Note that the text indicates that the guitar is a '59, and was likely modded in '64. That makes it 5 years old at the time. It hardly held the vintage mystique then that it does now. In fact it was a fairly current guitar, and probably quite typical of what Paul Rivera had access to--thus a perfectly acceptable specimen for experimenting.

No biggie.

The irony is that if it really was modded by Paul Rivera in '64--it has even more collectible vintage mystique than it would have otherwise.

Yeah, I'm afraid that back then modifying guitars wasn't a big deal, and certainly wasn't the Holy Sacrilege it has become. Right up into the eighties, people were doing it all the time, and no one thought the worse of it. Shit, in the late seventies a 1950's strat was just an old guitar, not a collector's piece. No one cared. You certainly can't blame a guy for doing something like that in the sixties. It is a mistake to judge historic events and people by the standards of the modern day, and that is as true in guitars as it is in politics.
