I think clip 2 sounds fuller and just overall more warm. Nice snap on the BD.
I do like the snare sound more from clip1, though. If you can get that same snare sound with the rest of clip2 would be ideal, IMO.

I prefer the second clip. Not so much at the beginning, but the bit starting just after halfway and running to the end sounds nice
Get that tone all the way through and you should have no problem doing a good sounding mix with it. |

I agree I'm liking the second clip more
what were your mics and positioning? |

The positioning on both was the same except the snare and kick.
the first clip the snare mic was about six inches off the snare and pointed at the center the kick mic wasin the sound hole pointed at the beater...(the eq was very different) on the second clip the snare mic (which actually was the rack tom mic also) was closer to 12 inches up and 2 inches back (above the tom) the reason the snare didnt have a dedicated mic.... i just got lazy....ha.... the floor tom mics are both about 4 inches off each tom.... |

Did you buy drum mics before overheads? It just seems like a strange way of getting started recording drums.
