Another newbie

Okay, since I am new here and not sure how everything works, I have a few questions.

1. Why are the profiles so basic
2. How do I add a personal pic as my avatar
3. Can anyone submit in the monthly challenge
4. Is there anyone interested in online collaborations?

These are just a few. I'm sure I will have more soon.

Hi and welcome,

I've only been here a few days too, so I'm an authority on.. nothing at all....

But I did do the pic thing recently. There seem to be two pics you can add - one to your profile and one as your post avatar. On some forums you need to link to an existing file on the net somewhere but here you can also upload a pic from your own computer and the site will store it. But it needs to conform to some size rules.

Start by click on User CP in the bar near the top of the page. (top left). then pick Edit Avatar on the left. It will give you options to upload and some guidance.

Collaborations? Who know? In theory there always seems to be a few willing people floating around on forums. But in practice - just like in real life - it usually means getting to know who the right match-up is. Converting good intentions to a finished result doesn't alway happen either...

Good luck,

Chris

Q1: Profiles are basic probably because they are not a strong focus of interest in this forum (unlike, say, Facebook).

Q2: Hakea answered this

Q3: Yes. They are informal, and sometimes not regular, largely initiated by up-fiddler. He may choose to raise a Februaru challenge, but there is nothing to prevent you from creating a challenge yourself.

Q4: There maybe people interested in on-line collaborations. Perhaps if you asked that question with a specific project in mind, then gauged the response.

Welcome to the forum.

Hey. Welcome to the forum. I think you will find the folks that you meet here pretty dedicated to helping one another. Consider posting a few lyrics or songs for us to give a listen. Typically folks here are pretty honest. Speaking from personal experience, that has been helpful to me and my craft. Challenges are just that....a challenge issued by someone to write a type of song or in a certain manner. People choose to participate or not depending on the challenge and their schedules. No one has a corner on the challenge market so feel free to fire one off if you have an idea.

Welcome to the site. Sounds like most of your questions have been answered. With the avatar pic, I believe you need a certain number of posts before you can put one up. Being a mod, you would think I would know how many, but I don't.

This is a great community where a lot of people take the time to help. Be sure to use the search function, as many questions may have already been answered.

peace.

Hi I am pretty much a newbie too and the Dec/Jan challenge was the first song demo I've done in a long time. Although I have written plenty of songs, I am not an accomplished musician, singer or producer/recording engineer. And maybe not an accomplished writer, either! Having said all that, I have had a very warm welcome from the forum!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to you all for the quick response to the questions. Every question was answered well. I think I will enjoy being a part of this community. Everyone seems to want to help each other, unlike other sites I've been to.
Again, thanks.
