MIDI issues in Pro Tools LE

Hey guys, there's something I've been willing to ask since a long time ago. I usually compose MIDI tracks using various MIDI tracks (duh) linked to an Instrument track.

Problem is that sometimes I'd like to change the tempo and when I do that all the notes start to mess up. Curious thing is that I have saved a session that let me change the tempo and measure without complication. Notes "find" their new position and the track plays smoothly with the new tempo.

Does somebody know what's going on?

Your tracks are sample based. they should be tick based if you wnt your data to follow your tempo change

Exactly. See that little blue clock next to your track automation mode selector? Change that to tick-based.

As a side note: I would also reccomend to route your multiple MIDI tracks to an AUX track rather than an INSTRUMENT track.

Hey guys, thanks for responding. Just too questions more:

1. What's the difference between tick and sample based?
2. Why's better to use and Aux track to route my MIDI tracks instead of an Instrument track?

Thanks.

Sample based is tied to fixed points in your session time relative to the beginning of the session.
Tick based is tied to your bars and beats. So if you change the tempo it will follow the tempo change.

A Midi track is just data. You need a way to hear what that data is so you route it to an aux track with an instrument.
An Instrument track is just a midi track and an aux track put together. So if your routing your midi track to an instrument track it's kind of pointless because you can just record your midi data direct to that one instrument track.
