Why didn't you just look on digidesign's website at the ProTools product page???:
"Supports Mac OS X, Windows Vista (32-bit Business or Ultimate), and Windows XP-based computers" http://digidesign.com/index.cfm?navi...0&itemid=35976 |

I did look on their website... It says Vista 32 bit... but it doesn't show that it works with Home Basic Edition... It just says there are "no known problems"...

Minimally you need to have all the RAM and Disc Drive space to. I dont know much, but right now im in limbo becase the computer that i was going to use for editing was to slow to handle the progam and m box so it crashed everytime i would plug in the M Box.
I dont know if you already have this "vista home edition" computer or not. But all i hear is GET A MAC if you want to run this program effeciently. |

Mac or PC - it doesn't really make much difference in performance.
What it says about Vista Home Basic is correct - there are no known issues. |

I've been running PT on winxp pro with a intel e8500 with 4gb ram [yes I know windows can't address all of it] and can easily max out track count with a plethora of plugins.

(about the performance bit - as for compatibility, you're spot on.) See below. Quote:
However, it's not simply about building the computer, but also maintenance. I run both Macs and PCs, and since I've had them, I've re-built the PC god know show many times - at least 6-8 times in the past 18 months. The Mac? runs fine, no issues, no slow down in processing speed, no nothing. Sure, I download stuff, sure I surf sketchy website, but I do that on both and the only computer that suffers is my PC. Both computers have very similar spec (in fact, the PC is every so slightly more powerful), yet you know which one runs PT better after using it for 2 months? That's right, the Mac. Now sure, rebuilding a PC is dead easy (and by rebuilding, i'm talking software, not harware). But I don't want to have to do it every 3 months to stop the system from getting bloated. So sure, I'll run a PC. And I do enjoy using it, no doubt it does mostly what I want it to do. But my Mac is what runs everything so much better. Even after a fresh rebuild of my PC, my Mac boots LOADS faster that the PC will.
