Right side of headphones are distorted on MBox

What's up, fellas?

Well recently, I took out my MBox that's running off 6.1 (old, I know) on a PC that has close to 4 gigs of memory and external drives to save sessions/audio files. I haven't used it much since I go to other studios, but after setting it up to give to a friend to start up his project studio, I realized there was a problem that I can't solve:

No matter which headphone jack I use on the MBox (whether it's the 1/4 jack on the back or the 1/8 jack on the front), for some reason the right side signal of the headphones is really distorted (almost sounds digital), to the point where it's very distracting. I've tried pressing the "mono" button on the front of the MBox to see if that would work, but it didn't work. I have 3 pairs of Sony MDR-7506 headphones and tried all of them with the Mbox, and still the same problem occured.

So my question is:

Has anyone ever had this problem with their MBox? If so, what was the problem and how did you solve it?

or

Is my MBox messed up? I know it isn't my ProTools since on playback, everything (including the recordings) comes out perfectly fine from the monitors I have hooked up to the back of the Mbox.

This is my only problem with my Mbox, other than that, everything works fine.

Can anyone help me out or give me suggestions? It'd be really appreciated. Thanks!

If you're sure its not the headphones themselves which are decked, then it sounds like the headphone amp in your mbox might be fried unfortunately

yeah, i'm definitely assuming it's a hardware problem, since ProTools works perfectly fine... another thing I noticed is that when it's extremely low with faint sound, it sounds perfectly fine... but i'm talking REALLY low volume, though... so when you moderately turn it up, the more it (the right side of the headphones) messes up.

Is it possible for a headphone amp to just be fried on one side and not the other? Sad thing is, I rarely ever used it and it's been like this since the beginning... is that possible too?

My mbox did the same thing...I just real quick cranked the voulume up and the right side worked fine....every once in a while it does it and I have to crank it up and down to fix it....but it does work for me!!!

Thanks! I tried that hoping it'd work, but didn't... i'm pretty sure now that it's the headphone amp...

... but if anyone else has any more suggestions or opinions, please feel free to let me know, since i'm not looking forward to finding a new MBox.

Try Digi TS first - they may be able to repair it (though at cost).
