ADAT input question

Hello,

I recently just acquired a few blackface ADATs and being unfamiliar with them I've a question in regards to the input routing. With all tracks enabled, putting signal into channel 1 shows up on other tracks. One of my machines shows input on channels 1,3, and 7. The other machine shows input on 1,3,5,7. Is this normal or is there something wrong with these units? Channel 2 does the same thing but shows input on other channels. I don't see anything about this in the reference manual. Anyone?

no, input on channel 1 should only show on channel 1 etc. However, please explain your setup i.e. are you going from analog mixer, digital mixer with lightpipe etc.

I've just been running signal into the analog inputs to test the units and them monitoring on the analog outputs. I've confirmed that channel one shows up after recording on multiple tracks. So there is no internal signal routing that can make input 1 go to any other input than track one? Thanks

Pretty sure this is the way the inputs are normalled so that you can get to all 8 tracks with a 4-buss console without having to use "y" cords or some other signal splitting devices. Some Fostex machines did the same thing. Using 1 output to 1 input per machine will cancel this internal routing.

I figured it was something to do with routing. It is strange the this is not documented in the reference manual. Thanks for your help.

I haven't been on Adats in quite sometime but I know there was an option to change this on the XT's, Lx 20's and Xt 20's. I have no idea if it worked for the blackface adats or not since I never used one. You might try reading one of those manuals and then giving it a go on your blackface. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I haven't turned them on in ages.
