Help With Desktop for PT 7.4 LE and Mbox 2.
This is my first post in this forum. I am completely new to Pro Tools. I bought a Mbox 2 with PT 7.4 and am looking for a reasonably priced desktop to run it. I am looking at a computer from Ebay with the following components and would like some advice:
Motherboard: Asus M2N68-AM (7050PV 2RAM 256M-VID SND LAN RAID) CPU: Athlon X2 4200 AM2 Dual-Core (2.2GHz 1280k 2000FSB 65w) CPU Fan: Approved Heatsink / Cooling Fan for CPU Processor RAM Memory: 4GB 800MHz (2X-2G DDR2 PC6400 RAM Hard Drive: 320GB 7200RPM SATA2 HDD Hard Drive: 320GB 7200RPM SATA2 HDD Cooling Fan: Hard Disk Drive Dual-Fan Cooler Optical Drive: BLACK 22X Dual Layer DVD-RW Burner PC Tower Case: BLACK NEON & Side-Window Mid Tower Power Supply: Okia 550W BASIC LOAD Case Fan: Ball Bearing ATX System Cooling CASE FAN Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition CD The price for this is around $600 which is my price point at this time. Would this be a decent desktop to run pro tools? I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks. |

Spec wise it'd be really quite good.
However what is more important is the motherboard/chipset and processor. In this case the processor is untested, however was used on some beta sites and is considered compatible. The motherboard is untested and unqualified also. Personally I wouldn't take the risk. But perhaps someone else has some experience with this mobo? If I were you I'd go for a mac. Perhaps an early G5, or a late G4. |

you should go on the digi site and read their requirements. there is tons of info there if you dig through it.

You're correct...
But there's nothing regarding that Mobo/Chipset hence my info above. The DUC (clicky here) is also a great source of information. |
