mixing software

i'm currently mixing all my stuff in a tascam2488mk11 but i want to get into mixing on a computer because it sounds easier and more efficient. What programs would you guys recommend to just mix tracks. i don't want to change how i record btw i just want to mix on the computer.

It's not easier (or harder really, just different). It's a whole new world and is infinitely less hands on.

I use Cubase, that's what I learned on, that's what I know.. Cubase LE comes with a LOT of mixers and interfaces which is why I have it. I think all the big programs do pretty much the same thing, whatever you get and use is what you learn and know.

Except that it doesn't support a lot of hardware...Cubase le 4 is great and you can use the install disc on any number of computers because the OEM licensed disks generate a random key each time.

No. It sucks. The full version of Cubase is dumb expensive and not worth it for someone just starting out.

LE4 is free with hardware, unlimited tracks and excellent midi support.

Course I'm trying to teach myself Logic right now (upgraded from express) so I'm probably having artificially fond flashbacks of Cubase.

That's an idea too, Logic Express is less than $200...

What's happened since, from what I can tell is this:

It's cheaper, buggier, has higher system requirements, and comes with lots of stuff. It's now marketed as being for Electronic Musicians by Apple folks.

Less midi hardware support, less scsi-midi support, a bit more suck.

Prettier interface though.

Try N-Tracks

I record on an Alesis HD24 and mix with N-tracks. It's extremely easy to use, and comes with EQ's, gates, compressors, effects, for every track. Plus buses, auxes and editing.

It's $64, but you can try it for while for free (beep every 30 seconds in trial version).
