some real rookie help needed please

hi.. im real new to all this lark, but i want to give it a go.. i have myself an edirol fa 66 and a yamaha mixer, some nice monitor speakers, and a nice condenser mic ...

i want to link it all together so i have more than 2 inputs (which is all the edirol has) linking instruments and vox straight to the desk so i can record multiple items, through the soundcard... and monitor them is this possible? i really dont have a clue how to pulg it all together, the studios i have used have anyways come pretty much set up, so im in a weird place, i can use software but have no idea behind the hardware...

i know this seems stupidly lame, but i would really appreciate some help, even if its towards books, sites etc just to let me get n understanding of all this.
