sheet music stand

ok, so i'm sick of resting my sheet music on top of the keyboard and having it slide over my fingers while playing, and what really drives me nuts is when the spine of the book bumps the rhythm button on.

i was expecting a music stand for christmas, so i didn't buy one, and no one ponied up so i'm still sans stand.

so i started looking online, but i have no idea what i need. those chintzy $15 wire ones look, well...chintzy. but $60-70 for a music stand???

hit me with some recommendations. i sit to play, it won't be travelling very much (if at all), and i want it to be reasonably sturdy (ie: doesn't fall over when i turn pages, etc).

thanks in advance.

I have some stands like this

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Legacy-Compac...3A1|240%3A1318

and some like this

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-85-147CM-...3A1|240%3A1318

Which I use depends what is going on the stand and where I'm using it. If I'm playing in a band and I only have pages of music and not books, then i'll use the "wire" one. If i'm at home and want to read from books I use the other.

$60 sounds expensive, search ebay for "music stand" - there will be something cheaper

However after looking on ebay for links in my response, I found this

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Deluxe-Wo...3A1|240%3A1318

now I want one, I really need to stay off ebay.

Yo Dross:Like, get someone to cut you some wood from Cherrywood and model the size, etc. [Cherrywood is plenty tough]* Cost is minor.* Then, adjust the brackets and hardware to resemble what you look at, view the net.* If you can't do it, find a friend who can craft the stand. Maybe even a craft person who teaches at a Jr. College?* So, for a minimal amount of pezzutos, you will have a classy music stand.Stand by.Green Hornet

Don't bother with a wood stand, it's not practical. They cost more, and if you take them anywhere they'll get banged up in no time. They are strictly for show.

I use a stand very similar to this:

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...and?sku=454316

I don't think $34 is too much to pay for a decent music stand. You can see Musician's Friend inventory of stands here:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navig...RWXYG&ZYXSEM=0

Also, avoid those little folding wire stands. They are for students and people that need to fold them up and put them in their instrument case. I have one of those as well, and that's what I used it for way back when. But for a keyboard player, you definitely want a more solid stand.

Don't bother making a stand for yourself, what a waste of time. I've done that as well, but only when I needed a real custom job to fit a specialty keyboard stand or to fit in a tight place. Just spend the $34 plus shipping and get a decent stand. Mine has lasted years and I gig with it quite a bit.

The storage in the back is handy, and this stand should reasonably last a lifetime.

thanks for all the links, guys. i have no idea how that mf list didn't come up on my search there--they stuck me with about ten cheesy $15 stands and ten $60 bulletproof stands.

$35 is more like it. i'll be ordering one soon enough. thanks again.

That's a clever stand, it's awfully small though. No wide enough for an open music book. But I could see it coming in handy in a lot of situations.

it'd be sweet though. man i hate turning pages. especially in song books like my billy joel one in which they insist on making you flip back and forth for different codas, etc.

Nice!! I've been looking for one that clips on, just to hold a page or two of lyrics.
