Alesis IO/2, Windows XP, Cubase

Hello All,

I am totally new to recording. I have windows xp, an ALESIS I/O 2 interface and cubase. Can anyone advise as to what the optimum setting within cubase device set-up are for this interface?

Best

Matt

Thats an odd question to be sure! Whattya mean exactly? If you're using the alesis drivers you shouldn't go far wrong...experiment with latency buffers.

buffers

Hello,

thank you for your reply. Yes, I meant buffers. Is there an optimum input/output latency in terms of ms.

And I am intrigued to know how tracks are synced up. For example if I play guitar and record along with a drum track, the tracks sync up perfectly in terms of timing. Does this syncing up happen within the io/2 or does cubase do it? I would like to know how the signal flows into and out of the io/2 interface.

Best

Matt

there's no way any of us can tell you how to set your bufrfers it's too system dependent... and cubase does all the work...

Cubase does the work

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I will fiddle around in Cubase to get the best results.

So am I right in thinking that it doesn't matter if there is a bit of latency because cubase matches the tracks up anyway? How does it do this? I would very much like to know.

And should I be recording at 41 or 48 thousand mega hz?

Thank you for your patience in answering.

Best

Matt

The sample rate (Hertz) will depend on the Bit-rate (16/24/etc). Try 24 bit with 41.1.

Latency refers to a delay in the processed output sound only; the time it takes for the computer to receive your inputted audio, process it, add any effects (VST plug-ins for example) and output it again. So latency causes a delay in monioring your soun which is, understandably, annoying when it comes to playing with a drum track. But the unprocessed sound is being recorded in real time - you're just not aware of it unless you enable Direct Monitoring.

bit rate

Hi there,

Thanks for your kind help.

How do I adjust the bit rate?

Best
