**URGENT** question

im just installing pickup covers on my warmoth jazzmaster, and with the covers on theres not enough room for the neck pickup to fit into the cavity (its too close towards the bridge about 1/16")

can i take out the dremel and cut it back a bit? will this damage the tone or anything?

i also have routers and plenty of tools (im a carpenter)

thanks. i need to know soon, i need the guitar tomorrow.

There won't be enough power in that dremel to do tidy job, I suspect if your into your carpentry you kind of suspect that. You really need to make up a jig with a fence to cut a neat line along the back edge of the pocket and use a router. Spiral cut bits are better for these sorts of job if you have them. You can use a couple of pins on the jig to act as a stop for the router so you don't go too far out. Make sure everything is clamped secure and do it with a few passes.

Will it effect the tone? Unlikely if your just removing a couple of mm. The covers themselves will probably have more effect. I would do the gig tomorrow and leave the routing job until you have the time to do it without rushing and can test out you jig and methods at your leisure..

this is interesting.

i got the pickup covers, and the cutouts in the pickguard were too small, so i filed them down. i didnt do it enough, and the covers were tight, thus distorting the pickguard, causing BOTH pickups to hit on the bridge side of the cavity.

i think i need to file more.

if not, i have a laminate trimmer/router which is perfect for the job. nice and small.
