unbalanced I/os - Balanced Patchbay?

Some gear I have is balanced, 2 patch bays and the Line outs on my firepods.

I also have some unbalanced gear. Tascam M520, 2 RNC compressors, and a patch bay.

I am trying to figure out the best way to configure my gear in my patch bays.

Is it bad to have my Balanced line outs come into a balanced patchbay out into a unbalanced line in on my mixer?

Would it be bad to set up my unbalanced inserts on a balanced patchbay?

I am having trouble grasping the whole thing and what to do, any thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers

Technically, the signal is balanced, not the gear. never confuse the connector with the signal it is carrying.

A balanced patchbay can carry a balanced or unbalanced signal. Same thing with balanced cables.

An unbalanced patchbay can only pass an unbalanced signal, same with an unbalanced cable.

If you plug a balanced output into an unbalanced input, you have an unbalanced connection.

For the most part, you can connect anything to anything else and it will work. Just be sure that if you have a balanced output going to a balanced input you are using a balanced cable and patchbay to make the connection.

If anything in the cconnection is unbalanced, the whole connection is unbalanced.
