Playing with a hangover.

I went out drinking with a couple coworkers last night. We started at my place, where we had a couple drinks while I cooked dinner (scotch, gin and tonics, beer), and then split two bottles of wine beteeen three of us. We then met up with a couple girls at a local bar, had a few beers there, and hopped a cab to a house party where we played beer pong for the rest of the night. Since we were already in pretty good shape when we went out, we got LOADED.

I'm still feeling like crap tonight, and I just picked up my guitar a few minutes ago. I can barely play - my fingers don't seem to want to go where I tell them to. I'm almost tempted to try to record something, but frankly I'd be too embarassed, lol.

Does this happen to everyone? That you just seem to lose fine muscle control when you beat the crap out of your body like that?

The trick is to beat your body up while you're young, and have a few beers.

Hangover?

Smoke a joint before bed.

Works everytime.

Weed's never been my thing, really. Whiskey and gin, however...

I think I just need to suck it up and realize that if I'm going to go out that hard, I need to expect to be worthless the next day, and if I can't be worthless the next day then I just need to take it easy, lol.

If you're feeling better by wednesday come on down to Church in Boston to see a pretty good show. Red Quiet, Thick as Thieves, Ralph Eats Dynamite, the Darker Hues... should be a fun night.

I'll buy you a beer. Or nine. Just plan on calling in sick on Thursday.

You're in Red Quiet, right? And it'd take more than 9 to make me call in sick, more like 18.

I THINK I have plans with some coworkers that night, though, so I can't promise...

I could explain all the physiology behind the inability to play well when hungover/drunk, but I'll just put my two cents in and say that my buddies and I never fail to sound REALLY good after a few cases!

less hangover

what's good for the liver is good for the hangover.
try milk thistle supplements..
dandelion and nettle root are good ingredaints as well as licorice in milk thistle supplements.

there are hangover formulas sold,too..

you can reduce the symptoms considerably by planning ahead..
anyone in a band that has some drinks over the course of the night should do this.

it's not bogus.

alkyhall depletes some things.. and it causes stress.. you take your supplements before and then after the gig. you wake up better!

How about all those bands on tour who are just having one long hangover...

I think their trick is, indeed, to get drunk again...

And ehm... stay off those joints. Before you know it you wake up on your coutch and two years just seem to have gone by. All of a sudden youve got kids and everything. I m from the Netherlands so Ive got a couple of friends who can regretfully back me on that.

I've played hungover more time than I could ever hope to count - I played for 30 years drunk, high or hungover (normally a combination of all three). I'm not talking about jamming in the bedroom - I'm talking hot stage lighting, large crowds, etc. (I've puked between sets and in one case during a set) - but never once did I miss a gig, a set or even a song. While I'm not proud of being addicted for that many years - I'm proud that I never let it stop me from gigging (although I have no doubt some of my performances were less than impressive)

Suck it up son, if you plan to drink like a man you need to handle the after effects like a man.

That being said - unsteady hands/fingers can go with a hangover -only rest or a hair of the dog can really cure that. Naturally responsible drinking could avoid hangovers...........but that's a whole different discussion.

Right now, no. :/ I've been way too busy with work and I've had a hell of a time finding a drummer. If that ever changes, though I'll be sure to let you know... Likewise, keep me posted and I'll try to catch one of your next few shows.
