alesis ion
I currently have a Korg M1 and a Yamaha DX7. There's some nice sounds in there but I'm looking for more options, and I just can't seem to get them with the free VSTi's I've been playing around with. My primary need is for sweet sounds for recording, although having a lighter synth than my old beasts would be nice for the occasional gigging I do. I like the sounds used by bands like MGMT, Postal Service, and my friend's band. A guy near me is selling the Alesis Ion for 300 bucks. Is it worth it for me to get into a third synth? To be fair, I haven't actually ever paid for a synth!

That's a good price for an Ion, I would go over and have a long demo of it to see if it's sound character meets your needs and kybd. feel although you could always use on of your other kybs as a controller.
