Cool

8th Street has a package deal for 4 Mxl603s with free cords for 299.00. I have a 424MKIII and a small 4 channel P.A. I use the 424 for recording 3 or 4 acoustic instruments at one time and use the P.A. for live playing the same 3 or 4 instuments with a few vocals. This is all done as a hobby. No demos for clubs or cd making. just for fun. Would these mics be ok for both apps or should I just get 4 sm57? My budget might get up to 400-500 bucks.
Thanks for any replies.

Emeric_2 is on a distinguished road
I suspect the 603's would feedback like an SOB, but I don't do live stuff. The 603's are a great mic for the $ though, I just bought two for overheads, so far so good. For the money their a fine mic.

Cool 603s

So you think the 603s are ok for recording quiet sit down acoustic stuff? That's the main reason for checking them out.

pattern...

It seems like I remember reading that the 603 had a very wide cardioid pattern, damn near being omni. This might not give the rejection you want for a live situation.
