What external mixer for Porta 02?

I want to add an external mixer to my Prota 02 to add microphones. I am doing myself any favors by spending money on a really nice mixer (XLR inputs, phantom power, equalizer, etc) or should I just stick with a Radio Shack 4 microphone mixer. I use the Tascam only as a home hobby and don't plan on doing anything fancy. Any ideas?

Hey John,
I'm another newbie here, but this is what I did. I seem to be in the world as you. Love to sit and record with my buddies and have no real reason to spend millions on gear to just have a great time. I have a Porta 3 and bought a small 80 watt 4 channel P.A. with speakers.
It works great for me. It has xlr and 1/4 inputs and hooks direct into the Porta. Other than the normal analog hiss I can now have a mic for each instrument.
You can just unplug the speakers when recording and then plug em in to listen back.
Well that's enought. Before you start to get the replys from all the experts on this site I just thought you could get something from some one who just loves to paly and have fun.
