Monitoring for Drummer

Hey everyone... just wondering what you guys think the best way for a drummer to hear what is being played.

We've record some scratch tracks for our drummer to play along with when tracking drums, but he complains he can't ever hear the music or the metronome through the headphones.

Sounds like he needs some good isolation cans.

I've been using the Sennheiser HD280's and they work just fine. Decent sound, good iso.

Worth a look.....

Might look into Koss "the plug" headphones with an adapter. I use them on my motorcycle all the time. Never tried them for tracking but it seems like a good idea.

They cost less than $20, and are basically ear plugs with a small tube to project the source audio into your ear.

Anybody here ever tried something like this?

We use Koss plugs as in ear monitors for live gigs with my band. Sound great, not too expensive, hove not blown them up yet (over 2 years).

I have not tried them in the studio but I cant see why it would not work. If you needed more isolation the drummer could wear a pair of industrial ear muffs over the koss plugs.

Cheers

Alan.
