SRVing up a Strat-style
Hey guys.
I wanna put an SRV style cursive script on my Yamah Pacifica (this one http://www.abcsounds.co.uk/images/ya...cifica412v.jpg). What's the best way to do this? Spary one on and varnish it? Or a vinyl sticker or something?

I'd be tempted to use the old masking-tape and spray-paint scheme, then maybe trace the edges with a fine point sharpie to even them out. But I'm not a stickler for fine details. It seems like I've heard of a few people using this technique with some success, but I've never tried it personally.

'SRV' on the scratch board. Like the Fender custom jobs.

Like these?.
A pro would do it with an air brush, a hobbyist would do it with a water slide decal. I wouldn't do it but thats just me. Look for a friend with an airbrush and experience or by a decal kit and experiment. |

Because I'm not Stevie Ray Vaughn and it's not really my thing anyway. I like to see as little clutter on a guitar as possible. Like I say thats just me and what I've got to like over the years.

Why? You're NOT Stevie Ray Vaughn. If you insist on doing that, then why don't you put your own initials on it? People will still think you're a poser but at least they won't say, "Look at that guy, he put SRV on his Yamah Pacifica, what an idiot!"
Why don't you try something original? Think of something unique that nobody else has and then go for it. Expressing yourself by copying someone else is not expressing yourself at all. |

DON'T get started on covers.
You could draw it on with a pencil & then, using a little engraver, enrave it down to the 2nd colour in the laminate (that's if it's a laminate scratchy). I'm all for hero worship & wearing hearts on sleeves (or Tshirts), tattooing even BUT I'm not fussed on stuffing around with the visual design factors of a good looking guitar. |

FWIW, I remember when I first saw a picture of SRV's guitar, the lettering reminded me a LOT of the sort of lettering you can get at hardware shops intended to write out street addresses. I'd start at your local hardware shop.
