Question

Hi,
I'm just one step from buying a Mackie Mixer (basicly because of the good pre-amps). What I need is 6 or 8 mic-in's with pre-amps.
So the 1402 mixer would be almost perfect, costs about $600.
But there's also the CFX 12. It costs only about $150 more but has got even 8 mic-ins, a graphic EQ and an effect processor.
So what I wonder is:
Has the CFX the same type of good pre-amps like the 1402? Does anybody know this or worked with CFX mixers, help me plz!
Thanks
Jules

The difference between the VLZ line of mixers and the CFX are VLZ's have XDR hi-quality pre's, whereas the CFX doesn't. The CFX series are mixers designed for live use hence the inclusion of onboard digital effects while the VLZ's are designed for recording.

I'd go for the 1402 because of the better pre's and put the $150 towards a lexicon processor.

I havent used the CFX, but usually those built in FX are pretty limited.

Allright, so what I need is nothing but a VLZ, no doubt
Thanks for the answer

Cool

Firstly, check out the Soundcraft Spirit FX8 (8 channels with Direct outs). IMO the pre-amps match those of the VLZ and the EQ is a helluva lot better. The built-in Lexicon FX are OK if you mess around with them and learn them.

Soundcraft

Wow, Soundcraft is even cheaper plus more features.
But are these really pre-amps similar to the hi-quality Mackie XDR pre-amps???

I need good pre's because my main purpose is HD-recording via a Delta 44 (later maybe two Delta 44's).
8 mic-in's would be perfect. The 1402 's got only six but it's okay if I have spent the bills rather on pre-amp quality than on the no. of channels.
I've heard a lot about Mackie, lotta people recommend Mackie, heard very few about soundcraft... so don't know...
