realtime vst

basicly what i want to be able to do is use a cubase synth vst, but i do not have a midi controller keyboard at present. i know how to use the midi input editor but do not want to use it for this particular sound/piece. what i am doing to get the sound i want is calling up the vst and using the displayed keyboard on there, by clicking with the mouse across the keys.

my problem is that i dont know how to record the sounds when doing this. i thought that maybe clicking on write enable would solve this, much like using plugins/inserts

can it be done? or do i need to buy a midi controller
